Updates: Summer, NYC Gathering, AjisAi mod

It's summer time!! Well, it's been summer time for me since I've been out of school for a month now...and I've been extremely unproductive.  I have 3 goals for this summer: get a drivers license, get a job, and get some college loans.  I've barely started on any of them with one month gone already... my parents are pissed.  On top of that, I just play this game (Mabinogi) all day til ungodly hours late at night, and then go to sleep at 6am-ish, and wake up at 6pm to start getting ready for dinner.  Terrible terrible... gotta fix that...... eh.  So there's my summer so far, and my summer plans.

NYC gathering was last Sunday.. Keane (iamk34n3) came to NY all the way from SoCal!  The weather wasn't the greatest, but I think the gathering turned out alright -- especially compared to the people who showed up last time (and compared to the time that Loanshark was the only one who showed..).  I'll get the vid out for that as soon as Loanshark sends me the raw clips.

So the AjisAi mod's gaining a bit of popularity, and so I decided to go and make one since I had the parts lying around..just to try it out.

Also haven't filmed for awhile, so killed two birds with one stone by... 1) testing the mod out and 2) making a warmup vid I guess for the things I have to film for in the near future!  I also used one of AjisAi's linkages in my intro, very fitting, eh? =P

So that's it for the updates.  I'll try to make some more unofficial solos soon, and post here more (oh, and hope you like my new blog design, 'cause I like it a lott).  Thanks for reading to those who still keep up =]!!

Busy Busy

So it's April, aka Hell Month for Asian American students at BC.  Especially with all the classes that I'm taking, there's a lot of final exam preparation on top of all the Asian community things I need to take care of and/or be a part of.

There's elections going on for the next week or so that will decide who's going to be on next year's E-Board (Executive Board) for each culture club/organization.  For all AHANA students, this is gonna be a really tough, competitive month.  AHANA stands for African-American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American.

As for myself, I'm running for CSA (Chinese Student Association) E-Board, and going for the AHANA Caucus Representative position.  This position is what connects CSA with all the other AHANA clubs, so as to not have all the clubs be divided by race, by having weekly meetings and seeing what all the other clubs are up to and to try and encourage each person's own club's members to go to them.

Unfortunately for me, this year has some really competitive freshmen who're all very enthusiastic about getting e-board positions like me...and the AHANA caucus rep seems to be a popular one.  I went to KSA (Korean) elections last night to try and get a feel for how things are gonna work on Sunday when I have to give my speech and do Q&A...and the atmosphere was pretty tense.  People are intense when it comes to elections, and there's hardly any joking around.  People are so serious about it that last year, this one girl ran unopposed for a position and still lost cause she didn't get a 2/3 vote.  I mean... this is the first time I've heard of someone running unopposed lose.

I still have to write up my speech....I haven't written one of those in ages.
Hopefully though, I'll get the position with the realization that doing so much work to get the position now is all an effort to get the chance to do even more work next year.

Quick Update

I just realized I haven't posted anything here for awhile now (well, ~2 weeks) so I figured I'd give you guys that still follow this a quick update on some things.

For those who don't know, I drank for the first time! Haha, originally, it was just for my friend's 21st birthday but now I'm just drinking socially from time to time now just cause I mean, I already started... lol.  But don't worry, even though everyone's calling me an alcoholic now, I really don't drink that much (just like a beer/shot one night, and I shared some rum and coke with a friend for St. Patrick's Day).  Not close to being drunk at all yet!

And secondly, the unofficial solos are coming out pretty nicely and people seem to like them.  Unfortunately, it's not spreading to other boards like AREZERT's solos do, but hopefully once I get more out, it'll spread (hopefully there'll be enough spinners on UPSB to keep me making solos for that long).  I have 4 out at the moment though: AwonW, teotoko, Pen Ninja, and Resonance, so go check them out if you haven't already! I try to keep them pretty short and to the point, just so that they're like introductions to a spinner's spinning... or I dunno, something like that.

I wish I could film more videos and put them up here...but filming is just so inconvenient in college so sorry guys, I won't be making clips that often.  Speaking of me needing to make clips though... and as a sneak preview to you guys that actually follow this thing... HoT 2nd is in the workings, and will hopefully be out by the end of April.  But SHHH!!!

Next AREZERT

So I started making unofficial solo videos today, though I've been planning to for awhile now.  I feel like when people talk about JEB spinners, and someone hears about a spinner they don't know about, they can go to AREZERT's channel and just look him up and watch their video to know what everyone is talking about.  Or maybe that's just me... Cause whenever I don't know about a JEB spinner, I just look up his unofficial solo by ponkotu to get a sense of his spinning.

Well, I feel like lots of UPSB spinners are unknown to the world, and so I want to spread UPSB out a bit...especially since we're "universal."  So I made this channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/JCUPSB , to put up unofficial solos that I'll be making on UPSB spinners.  And to get it started, I created a promotional video to sort of...represent UPSB.  Hope you enjoy it!

And if you have a request for a solo to be made or would like one made for yourself, just let me know by posting in the comments and I'll see what I can do.

Unofficial Solo

Yay, got my first unofficial solo today =] Even though I don't have too many clips out, Wind managed to pick out a couple of decent ones and put it together along with a bunch of my pictures that I'm assuming he pulled off of facebook.  But Wind, thank you for putting this together, it's much appreciated!

BC CSA/KSA Culture Show

For the past 3 weeks, I've been learning how to play/spin a chinese yoyo in order to perform for the Boston College CSA (Chinese Student Association)/KSA (Korean Student Association) culture show.  I usually had 3 practices a week, 1-2 hrs long each, and I got quite a few blisters on my hands cause of it...not to mention a bloody nose after having the yoyo fly into my face.  And then during the last few days before the show, I had run throughs which was when my group's yoyo act along with the other chinese/korean acts practiced altogether... these lasted til 1am and 2am.

The show was yesterday, Friday, at 7:00 PM, and I was in the 2nd half.  I was allowed to sit in the audience up until intermission after the 1st half, and watching each act end got me more and more nervous as it meant that I was going to go on stage in front of 200-300 people soon.  Peers that I knew, peers that I didn't, their parents, professors, and other people.  At the end of act right before mine, I shook out all my nervousness, and I stepped on stage with my partner and 6 other yoyo'ers.  I threw my yoyo to my partner and he threw me his.  Double pass, successful.  Double pass again.  Successful again!  I was on a roll, I was confident.  Coffee grinder trick, yet another successful trick.  Then my strings got tangled.... then my legs started feeling a bit weak.... then I couldn't untangle it in time for the next trick; leg, the trick I'm normally most comfortable with.  I got off the stage so that the group 2 yoyo'ers could go on, and perform part 2 of our routine.  I messed up, but luckily nobody really noticed cause my yoyo never really dropped onto the floor.  *phew*

Afterwards, I had an hour to kill before the afterparty at 10:30.  I took a shower, and then went to the afterparty with a bunch of my friends.  There was ~100 people cramped up in this small on campus house thing, moderately loud music, and a shaking housing foundation because of the people dancing and jumping.  It was too sweaty inside though, it was nasty.  I stepped in and out to get some air, until this RA (residence assistant) came into the place and told us to shut up.  Then told us to keep everyone inside, and if he saw people outside, he'd shut the party down...of course, we all stayed inside.  I only stayed for another 1/2 an hour though; enough time to see my sober, kinda nerdy friend grind on a couple girls who've had a bit to drink already.  (My friends and I've had a talk with him already... lol)  It was I guess..interesting to see that new side of him, and see a couple other of my friends let some random guys dance with them when I guess, nobody expected it.  Another one of my friends though was asked to dance, and she rejected him...I lol'd haha.  By 2AM I think I was done and headed to the cafeteria, chilled for a bit, and then went back to my room.  It was a good night =]

So overall though, the culture show went really well!! All the other acts were awesome, and everyone loved it. =] And after the party, a good chunk of my recent stress has finally been relieved of, and I can finally relax a bit!

Hectic Week

This week is going to be super hectic, I know it.  I'm already feeling it now.  I have a bunch of classes this semester, and labs/discussion sections to go with them already... and I have so much culture show practice this week.  But I suppose that's good, since I'm not ready for the show at all...

For those who don't know, I'm learning how to do chinese yoyo right now (also known as diabolo) so I can perform in my school's Chinese Student Association (CSA) culture show.  I've been doing it for a few weeks now, but I don't think I'm that good..unforunately..since the actual show is this Friday at 7pm.  My practices are a couple hours long almost every day and usually late at night cause of scheduling conflicts (practiced from 11pm-1am yesterday).  Then today, I have practice from 6-8pm, and then culture show run throughs from 8pm-1am.  And again tomorrow, from 8pm-2am.  On top of that, I have a chem exam, chinese quiz, and possibly a pyschology quiz on Friday.  How I'm going to find time for sleep... I have no idea.

I was really hoping for a snow day or something today, so I could get the day off and get some work done, but no, of course not, classes are running normally.  There was an announcement yesteray that classes after 12pm were canceled, but nope... false hope.

I've found hardly any time for UPSB recently too.  I go on from time to time, but not for long enough periods of time to really talk.  And when I do go on for a little while, it's during UPSB's boring hours.. the morning.  My spinning's terrible now too; I've been wanting to learn a couple new tricks, but I seem to be getting progressively worse as college life is overloading me with work.  I feel like I'm becoming more and more inactive on UPSB... meh.

But anyway, after the culture show on Friday night, there's going to be a big afterparty!  So hopefully I'll be able to relax after that, and after this week is over...at least for a day or two.  =]

I'm cured

So as some of you may know, I have this problem of sleeping really late and waking up really late.. and sometimes missing lots of classes because of it.  Or rather, I had this problem because it seems I can sleep by midnight or 1AM now... and get up before 8AM everyday.  I'm rather surprised by it myself to be honest.  I woke up this morning the moment my 7:50 alarm rang, and managed to make it to my chemistry quiz at 9.  Last semester, I missed maybe 4-5 quizzes because they were at 9AM (that's about 1/2 of my semester's total quizzes?).

Haha, and to think, just over winter break, I would be going to sleep at 7AM, and waking up at 7PM.  Thank goodness I fixed this in time for school; I really need to get better grades this semester so I gotta go to class.

And okay, I don't know if I have a problem with this or not, but I used to eat a lot..or what I thought was a lot.  But now it seems I'm eating much less too.... I have much less of an apetite now, it's so weird.  But I guess that's not that bad of a thing, maybe I won't put on another 10 pounds like I did last semester (luckily, I lost that over winter break though lol).  Yay, no freshman 15 for me (..hopefully).

My days are hectic though.. to try and get everything done and go to all the things I need to go to.  So many late night meetings after a day packed full of classes.. and then homework after that.  Although I've been skipping out on some homework (not that that's much different from last semester) to try and get to bed early to keep up my waking up for class streak going.

Running out of time for pen spinning though; I have a couple of things I still have to film for and some Vault business to take care of (can't tell you what that is though =P), but it seems I'm finding a difficult time putting those things into my schedule.

Well, weekend's almost here, and hopefully I'll get some UPSB related things done then.  Oh, and I'm going to the aquarium on saturday! So excitedd, I wanna see sharks, and jellyfish, and big fishies.  I'll probably post up a couple of pictures here of that.  =]

Lost half of it

Well I lost my vic mod with signo/hgg tips... well, rather, half of it.  As some of you may know, it's 2 supertip bodies connected with a bic stic body, but I lost half of it.  And it's upsetting cause I can't really replace it right now since the signo/hgg tip I used was the PDS kind (used in Air MS's) and I have no more airfit grips.  Sooo...back to G-spec'd Waterfall.  Feels light, but still good.  =]

*tries to spread with waterfall*
*hits face*
....Fail.

Okay, this might take a bit of time to get used to again.

Spread Reverses? Or no?

I believe it was Goldstars that mentioned doing a spread after a bak in the shoutbox one day, and then I realized that spreads really aren't done clockwise (right hand)...so I gave it a shot.  My notation is terrible, so I'm not sure if spread reverse is the correct name for this (not that spread is even official?), but it's all I can come up with lol.

Also, I wanted to give posting vids on this blog a shot, and so hopefully there'll be more vids like this to come.  Although filming vids is a bigg pain for me right now.  My usual set up is gone cause I'm at college.  Whenever I film, it records in .mov or .avi; both formats that my windows movie maker doesn't feel like being able to edit.... And I hate having to always ask someone to cut it for me.  And sometimes the vid I film with my camera comes out to be a ridiculous size (1min ~ 100mb)...so that's annoying to send to other people.

But anyway, here's the short clip I filmed.  Enjoy!

First Day Back

11:09 o'clock... Dad walks into my room and tells me to Get up! Get up! 11:30AM, I'm out the door and on my way to the bus stop in Chinatown.  Once I got there, I said my good byes to my dad, and then went into the waiting room of the bus station and started watching TV and utilizing the free wifi that they had there.  I was pretty early.  12:40, time to get on the bus.  I looked around the bus for some empty seats, and being the lazy kid that I am, I took the first pair of unoccupied seats that I saw..when I then realized that the woman sitting in front of me had her seat pushed all the way back.  It was really cramped and I couldn't take put my laptop on my lap so I put it on the seat next to me, until some guy came and asked to sit next to me.  I said it was fine... I fell asleep, and next thing I knew, I'm in Boston.

6:30PM, I dropped my ridiculous luggage off at my room, and clicked the 4th floor button on the elevator to go to my friend's room to chill and then grab some dinner.  After I got back, I did nothing in my friend's room til like 10:30PM, when we decided to go out to Applebee's and get dinner...again.

When the bus came, it was pretty empty, but after everyone on the stop that I was waiting at got on... we probably filled half the bus.  Then as we stopped by another stop, a billion more people got on.  It just filled up in an instant, but more people continued to push their way in.    Then this one blonde girl decided that it'd be a good idea to just sorta lean/sit on me, and as my hands were still by the seat to hold my umbrella, the back of my hands eventually ended up touching something that I didn't really want it to touch.  Not on purpose at all, I didn't mean to or want to..the bus just became too packed and I couldn't move, and she moved on me.  On purpose or not, I can't say for sure, but it ended up happening and I just looked at my friend next to me and he looked back at me.  Her friend decided to sit on the inside of my other leg.... they both turned around and apologized and introduced themselves and asked for my name and my friend's name.  I told them John, he told them Carmel.  They were like, nice to meet you John and Jeremy..... I can't remember one of their names, but the other was Lauren or something -- both sophomores.  Then she apologized again and said... "sorry if i'm backwards straddling you."  But I'm pretty sure this was all an accident and it was cause the bus got so full so they were just pushed onto me by the other 50 people behind them, but even so... interesting first day.

After Applebee's, I went back with my friends to one guy's room and we just hung out there til like 4AM, when then I finally decided to go back to my room and fell asleep.  I didn't even uppack yet.  Ugh...

Going back to BC and UPSB

After a month of being at home doing absolutely nothing, it's finally time to go back to college.  My first semester grades were not so great unfortunately (couple C's and B's, and only one A in Chinese), but now I'm ready to go back and really study harder/fix my bad sleeping habits/get more As!  I'll blame my bad grades on the first semester being an adjusting period haha.  But at the same time, I'm kinda reluctant to go back to Boston, since I've just been pampered and relaxing at home for a month.  Oh well, I gotta do it, lots of money is being put into me going there.

On other news, I've been working on power tricks lately using vicgotgame1's mod v.1 with signo/hgg tips instead of airfit tips.  I got some negative feedback on this, as well as some positive; negative- i'm losing my old style//positive- i'm trying something new out.  But although I'm learning some power tricks now, that doesn't mean I'm going to turn 150% thai style.  I'm using a longer/heavier mod to learn more busts, fl TAs, spreads, etc... but those tricks are just going to be put into my old style.  My old style needs more tricks, and I'm just using this to add to my trick list.  SOOO, if you think I'm going towards the path most noobs go on with learning power tricks and trying to become the next peem -- don't.  I'm not gonna be doing that.

And lots of oldies are coming back?  strat, Asian Tim, Tim, AoD, and anyone else I missed.  Dunno what to say about that, but that just caught my attention recently.

Oh, and after actually reading some of zuolin's posts in Spammer's Bin, I'm starting to see the idiot in him that everyone else sees.. Although I don't really care if he's gone or not cause he's keeping himself in SB...but I gotta admit, this kid is pretty dumb.

WC10 has started, and after looking at the lineups, I'm kinda disappointed in the spinners for some of the communities.  PSH sticks out to me with the most disappointing line up, and JEB has a disappointing lineup in that it's not the regular "JEB stars" spinning, but their lineup actually isn't too bad.  And I'm hoping TWPS gets far, they have a lot of nice spinners that I like to watch...and I think quite a few other people have their eyes on them too.  I'm pretty sure Zombo does.

It's 4:30 in the morning... I really need to learn to go to sleep earlier, like before the sun rises.  Hope I fix this before the first day of classes on Tuesday.  I should probably head to bed now.......zzzzzzzzz.

Chapter 1

First blog post!

Okay, so I made this blog after being inspired by Eriror's Stash of Videos where he puts up all his new videos onto his blog, and Tek's News Show that he has just recently started.  This is going to be somewhat of a mix of the two...in a way.  I'll be putting up whatever new videos I film here, and perhaps the collab if that video was used in it.  But at the same time, I might get the urge to rant about something. It could be good or bad, about my life or UPSB, or I dunno, anything else.  Those rants'll go here too.. and I guess updates on what's going on UPSB too.  If Tek misses something or doesn't go into enough detail or I disagree with his opinion on something, I might go on that and talk about that here.  But I haven't really figured all that out yet; I'll make use of this blog whenever I can and I hope you guys keep up with it.
