Unofficial Solo

Yay, got my first unofficial solo today =] Even though I don't have too many clips out, Wind managed to pick out a couple of decent ones and put it together along with a bunch of my pictures that I'm assuming he pulled off of facebook.  But Wind, thank you for putting this together, it's much appreciated!

BC CSA/KSA Culture Show

For the past 3 weeks, I've been learning how to play/spin a chinese yoyo in order to perform for the Boston College CSA (Chinese Student Association)/KSA (Korean Student Association) culture show.  I usually had 3 practices a week, 1-2 hrs long each, and I got quite a few blisters on my hands cause of it...not to mention a bloody nose after having the yoyo fly into my face.  And then during the last few days before the show, I had run throughs which was when my group's yoyo act along with the other chinese/korean acts practiced altogether... these lasted til 1am and 2am.

The show was yesterday, Friday, at 7:00 PM, and I was in the 2nd half.  I was allowed to sit in the audience up until intermission after the 1st half, and watching each act end got me more and more nervous as it meant that I was going to go on stage in front of 200-300 people soon.  Peers that I knew, peers that I didn't, their parents, professors, and other people.  At the end of act right before mine, I shook out all my nervousness, and I stepped on stage with my partner and 6 other yoyo'ers.  I threw my yoyo to my partner and he threw me his.  Double pass, successful.  Double pass again.  Successful again!  I was on a roll, I was confident.  Coffee grinder trick, yet another successful trick.  Then my strings got tangled.... then my legs started feeling a bit weak.... then I couldn't untangle it in time for the next trick; leg, the trick I'm normally most comfortable with.  I got off the stage so that the group 2 yoyo'ers could go on, and perform part 2 of our routine.  I messed up, but luckily nobody really noticed cause my yoyo never really dropped onto the floor.  *phew*

Afterwards, I had an hour to kill before the afterparty at 10:30.  I took a shower, and then went to the afterparty with a bunch of my friends.  There was ~100 people cramped up in this small on campus house thing, moderately loud music, and a shaking housing foundation because of the people dancing and jumping.  It was too sweaty inside though, it was nasty.  I stepped in and out to get some air, until this RA (residence assistant) came into the place and told us to shut up.  Then told us to keep everyone inside, and if he saw people outside, he'd shut the party down...of course, we all stayed inside.  I only stayed for another 1/2 an hour though; enough time to see my sober, kinda nerdy friend grind on a couple girls who've had a bit to drink already.  (My friends and I've had a talk with him already... lol)  It was I guess..interesting to see that new side of him, and see a couple other of my friends let some random guys dance with them when I guess, nobody expected it.  Another one of my friends though was asked to dance, and she rejected him...I lol'd haha.  By 2AM I think I was done and headed to the cafeteria, chilled for a bit, and then went back to my room.  It was a good night =]

So overall though, the culture show went really well!! All the other acts were awesome, and everyone loved it. =] And after the party, a good chunk of my recent stress has finally been relieved of, and I can finally relax a bit!

Hectic Week

This week is going to be super hectic, I know it.  I'm already feeling it now.  I have a bunch of classes this semester, and labs/discussion sections to go with them already... and I have so much culture show practice this week.  But I suppose that's good, since I'm not ready for the show at all...

For those who don't know, I'm learning how to do chinese yoyo right now (also known as diabolo) so I can perform in my school's Chinese Student Association (CSA) culture show.  I've been doing it for a few weeks now, but I don't think I'm that good..unforunately..since the actual show is this Friday at 7pm.  My practices are a couple hours long almost every day and usually late at night cause of scheduling conflicts (practiced from 11pm-1am yesterday).  Then today, I have practice from 6-8pm, and then culture show run throughs from 8pm-1am.  And again tomorrow, from 8pm-2am.  On top of that, I have a chem exam, chinese quiz, and possibly a pyschology quiz on Friday.  How I'm going to find time for sleep... I have no idea.

I was really hoping for a snow day or something today, so I could get the day off and get some work done, but no, of course not, classes are running normally.  There was an announcement yesteray that classes after 12pm were canceled, but nope... false hope.

I've found hardly any time for UPSB recently too.  I go on from time to time, but not for long enough periods of time to really talk.  And when I do go on for a little while, it's during UPSB's boring hours.. the morning.  My spinning's terrible now too; I've been wanting to learn a couple new tricks, but I seem to be getting progressively worse as college life is overloading me with work.  I feel like I'm becoming more and more inactive on UPSB... meh.

But anyway, after the culture show on Friday night, there's going to be a big afterparty!  So hopefully I'll be able to relax after that, and after this week is over...at least for a day or two.  =]
